Mayor Todd Gloria's Budget Cuts to Arts and Culture

The recent news that Mayor Todd Gloria's proposed budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year is worthy of a front page message to our supporters, friends and members.

Mayor Todd Gloria has proposed a substantial 85% reduction in arts and culture funding, slashing the budget from $13.8 million to just $2 million.  As a small, non-profit foundation we rely on several grants each year to keep the museum open and continue our preservation work in downtown San Diego.  These proposed cuts will be devastating to our mission.  We ask you to please make your voices heard to keep funding for Arts and Culture in San Diego.

A reduction of this size will affect all the amenities that San Diego offers it's residents.  Libraries, music, museums, and other non-profit cultural organizations will be dramatically reduced or eliminated.  Cities that have a robust arts community thrive by connecting like minded people that find power and agency within their respective programs.  A thriving city is one that has a variety of arts programs, cultural expression and meaningful engagement for all.

We are asking you to contact the Mayor’s office and your City Council representative today. Tell them that a vibrant San Diego requires a budget that invests in it's residents.

Call Mayor Gloria: 619-236-6330.

Email: MayorToddGloria@sandiego.gov.
